The 6 Best Yuri Manhwa To Read 2025

Manhwas come in several different genres, with romance styles being among the most popular.

These types of genres themselves are split into various niches, and one relatively new one that is gaining increasing traction is Yuri.

Often referred to as Girl’s Love, or simply GL, they focus their storylines on females falling in love with each other.

While some depict sexual themes and imagery, others are targeted more towards a PG audience. Despite the genre very much focusing on the L part of the LGBTQ+ label, the storylines can be enjoyed by any audience.

If you are not familiar with any titles, here are X of the best Yuri manhwa recommendations to read in 2025.

Best Yuri Manhwa Recommendations

These Yuri manhwas are not presented in any particular order, but they are all worth adding to your must-read list!

  1. Vengeance

If you are looking for a story that offers a darker side of romance than most other Yuri manhwas, then Vengeance is perfect for you.

It centers around the plight of Hyeon Seola, a police detective who discovers her girlfriend (Hwan Hara) has been brutally murdered and mutilated. On top of that, the last time they saw each other ended in a blazing argument.

As a queer rights activist, Hwan was known for her outspoken nature and forthright views, while Hyeon was much quieter. However, now that she is deceased, the detective, along with her trusty work partner, is tasked with finding her killer.

While retracing her last known movements, weeding through a long list of suspects, and grappling with her sense of regret, grief, and guilt, she vows to get revenge on whoever killed Hara – whatever it takes.

  1. Miss Angel And Miss Devil

Created by MAEU Malgeum, the compelling story of Miss Angel and Miss Devil does not yet have an official English translation. However, if you can read Korean, there are a whopping 436 and counting chapters you can enjoy!

That said, it is available as a fan translation, although it is not as polished as it could be. Notwithstanding, if readers allow for creative license, they will experience a delightful, supernatural fantasy tale that includes angels who aren’t exactly angelic and devils who aren’t particularly devilish.

For instance, Haki is tasked with leading humans into sin and temptation, although she is far more comfortable tendering to her flowers. Likewise, Hiskya is supposedly a good little angel, but she isn’t afraid to tease people and is prone to very unpredictable and eccentric behavior!

While they may appear to be polar opposites, they actually make a lovely, sweet couple whose adventures you should enjoy in this gentle, divine-themed romcom.

  1. A Story Concerning Sweets

Things are not quite what they seem in A Story Concerning Sweets, and that is what makes it such a great read!

On first inspection, it appears to be a story about two young girls who eventually develop feelings for each other as their friendship strengthens over the years, and despite facing some ups and downs, they have a jolly old time doing cute things together.

But here comes the twist!

The two girls are called Xiao Xiao and Ghost, the latter of which is not a nickname. Instead, it is the unnamed spirit of a baby who sadly died not long after birth but then went on to grow much older in her afterlife.

Xiao Xiao herself was only able to interact and talk with each other after almost dying herself from a congenital heart condition. After connecting, they grow stronger bonds over a shared love of stories and sweets and enjoy plenty of good times venturing around the hospital.

However, with Xiao Xiao’s condition a constant worry, the relationship is one that is always open to heartbreak at any moment.

  1. Love Countdown

Don’t confuse the BL manhwa Countdown to Love with this story because Love Countdown is completely different. It is also much shorter, consisting of six chapters, which nonetheless will definitely entertain you.

Overall, it is a simple story where out of personal tragedy springs a newfound love between two girls – Yoo Minhee and Park Heemin.

The narrative starts when Minhee has her world shattered when she catches her boyfriend in a romantic tryst with another woman. Fuming with anger and confusion, she storms back home, where fate crosses her paths with Heemin, an old childhood friend.

And soon, a love story begins.

  1. June Sea

Unlike many other Yuri in this genre, June Sea is a rather racy story that is set in Busan in 1936, at a time when Korea was occupied by the Japanese and would not be freed for the best part of a decade.

Even then, at least half the country finds it much harder to enjoy peace, which makes it difficult for the main protagonist, Yeon Jeong, to find anywhere she fits in.

Struggling to connect with any of her peers, she leads a lonely and frustrating life until she suddenly meets a mermaid.

After a brief conversation, the mermaid says she will return soon to pick Yeon up and whisk her somewhere “eternal happiness lies”.

Tempted to follow her into the depths of the ocean in the hope of finding somewhere she might truly belong, Yeon faces a dilemma of whether she can trust the mermaid’s word and take a leap of faith.

  1. SQ Begin W/ Your Name

Originally hailing from China, the story of SQ Begin W/ Your Name is another that doesn’t yet have an English publisher. However, this might only be a matter of time, as the manhwa has been popular in South East Asia for well over a decade.

It follows the story of middle school children Sung Jin and Qui Tong, who slowly bond with a wider group of friends.

Unfortunately, things didn’t start off well for Sung Jin, who didn’t make that good of an initial impression on Tong. In fact, it was so bad that she began to avoid the very bus stop where they met for the first time.

Eventually, they do develop a friendship, but taking it to a romantic level proves not to be an easy progression.

Final Thought

Girl love can be just as beautiful, tragic, confronting, heartfelt, and challenging as ‘conventional’ boy-meets-girl-love, and the manhwa recommendations outlined above showcase that in spades.

All of these stories are compelling manhwas that you won’t want to put down. But once you finish them, you will need something else to read.
